The Price/Summit

The price of despair
is spent on the ones
you love; your love being
more desperate than mine.

The comfort I find
at the end of my road
leaves me when I gaze
into your emptiness.

While gazing I find
the hidden channels
tuned into your ruin
and I am afraid
of the dirge
you find so familiar.

Shame is a doctrine
I have long given up on,
yet its tenets continue
to drive us to this summit.
